Think Thin Thoughts
It may sound almost amazing in its simplicity and cunning design, but using your mental abilities to actually think yourself into being slimmer can really work. All you have to do is work on a little mental discipline and you can achieve wonders with your waistline that you may have not realized before. So how does this work, why does this work and how can you make this work for you?
The first step to making your mind work for you is to learn how to calm it. That's right, because most of us go though our day and often late into the night allowing our minds to busily buzz away with a train of random thoughts and internal conversation that are really doing us absolutely no good whatsoever and in many cases are actually doing us harm! You may not believe this, but then there are plenty of people who don't believe a lot of things. My guess is you are reading this because you are open to alternatives and reasonable ones that will help you lose weight where other attempts have previously failed.
So why are our daily mental activities doing us harm? The main reason for this is because the mind is mentally busy running its own commentary on what you are observing while serving up opinions and arguments that you actually have little to do with yourself. In other words, your mind is ruling you and you are letting it do whatever it wants in response to what it is being fed up by you and what you see around you. Often, this takes on a negative aspect where you see problems all around you and even though you are often powerless to do anything about them, you still carry on a mental commentary on what you would do if you could. This is draining and a wasteful use of what is actually your most powerful resource if only you could see how to harness it. Well I will tell you how!
Calm Your Mind
First, as I already said, you must learn to calm your mind. That means shutting off all those mental conversations about what you read in the newspaper, or saw on TV or watched from the window of your office or whatever. All this stuff is unhelpful at best and debilitating at worst. Take a rule of thumb under your wing that says that if you can't change something, then don't think about all the ways you would like to change it. Why? Because no matter what you come up with in your thoughts, none of it matters to the situation to which those thoughts are directed. Does that make sense? I hope so because the realization of this is a big eye opener. It is a huge light bulb going on that will change your life for the better.
By calming your mind you shut out all unnecessary inner conversations and arguments with yourself. You effectively close off the stream of what is little more than background interference noise inside your head! You can do this through meditation techniques, self hypnosis, or yoga mental calming techniques. The result is that you literally stop thinking about things and concentrate instead on nothing, or the image of nothing.
Once you can do this regularly and without any effort, you can then begin to re-train your mind to think only the thoughts that you allow it to think. This is taking control of your own mind and making it work for you instead of letting it run riot and control you.
Retrain Your Thinking
The re-training comes by making positive affirmations about what it is that you want to achieve in your life, the things that you want to change for the better etc. these must be things that directly affect you and only you. Its important to remember that you can't change someone else's life with your thoughts, only your own. The changes must be for the things that you want and never for the things that you don't want. To give you an example of this, you want to lose weight, so concentrate on your body becoming slimmer and healthier, NOT on the foods that you have to stop eating or anything that you think you have to give up.
Most of us are busy concentrating on the things that we don't want and then we wonder why they always seem to show up. Thinking about debt tends to bring more debt into your life. Even thinking about how to get out of debt still brings debt, because you are thinking debt and that's what shows up. Your mind does not discern between the positive and negative, it sees only on the thing it is thinking about. If you want to be warm, you don't think about getting rid of the cold, you concentrate on creating heat by lighting a fire or turning on a heater. If you want to be prosperous, you don't think about debt, you think about prosperity!
The same thing works with weight loss. You don't think about a big pile of food that you must push to one side for your weight to drop. Instead you think about a small plate with a tasty meal of low calorie food that will help you lose weight. You don't think about hauling your lazy body off the sofa to get fit. You think about going outdoors and running around the block, or going for a swim or whatever exercise activity you want to do.
By thinking about what you DO want, you make it happen. Thinking about how much you will enjoy going for a swim will set up a chain of events in your mind that will put you in the mood for really going for that swim, even though you may not have wanted to in the past. Or thinking about how nice it would be just to go for a walk in the countryside spurs you onto actually getting out of the house and taking that walk! These are the things that your mind can do for you when you take control and tell your mind what you want to do and stop letting it tell you what you are going to do.
Try it for yourself. What have you got to lose, except a few pounds in weight, while you can gain a slimmer, fitter and healthier body because you told your mind that's what you want!
